Central America: 7 small countries (Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize) on a narrow strip connecting North and South America. Once homeland of the Maya and the Aztec culture of which many ruins still remember of these interesting, though brutal old times. But not only the ruins: also its inhabitants are still very much Maya or Aztec. Especially Guatemala is a very good example: lots and lots of very interesting traditional costumes and beautiful old temples in jungle settings.

But Central America is more: jungle and wildlife. Costa Rica for instance has made it its prime target to protect its natural habitat by proclaiming most of its land national parks. And as such it attracts loads and loads of tourists who would like to get a glimpse of the beautiful rain forests. But also Nicaragua, Honduras and Belize have still lots of jungle and wildlife. And don't forget marine life; Honduras and Belize are perfect diving spots.

Centraal Amerika: 7 relatief kleine landen (Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize) op een smalle strook die Noord en Zuid Amerika verbindt. Eens het land van de machtige Maya en Azteken cultuur waarvan de vele ruines stille getuigen zijn. Maar ook de bewoners van Centraal Amerika herinneren nog steeds aan oude tijden, want ze zijn nog steeds heel erg Indiaans (met een vleugje Spaans). Vooral Guatemala is een goed voorbeeld: prachtige klederdracht en schitterende tempels in de jungle.

Maar Centraal Amerika heeft meer te bieden: jungle en dieren. Costa Rica bijvoorbeeld heeft als doelstelling zoveel mogelijk van het land te beschermen en tot Nationaal Park uit te roepen. Met als gevolg dat duizenden toeristen het land weten te vinden in de hoop wat van de regenwouden te ervaren. Maar ook Nicaragua, Honduras en Belize hebben wat dat betreft veel te bieden. En vergeet de oceanen niet: Honduras en Belize zijn perfecte duikgebieden.
